So many people you meet are desperate for hope and crave any act of kindness – no matter how small – to give them a reason to believe that life will be ok. Your smile or kind word can literally turn a life around, sometimes even without your knowledge. Our task is merely to help those who suffer in front of us, and we can begin in our own neighborhood and city. Success or failure is God’s concern, not ours. Ours is simply to do. The famous children’s television show personality ‘Mister Rogers’ explained it this way:

“Deep within us- no matter who we are-there lives a feelings of wanting to be lovable, of wanting to be the kind of person that others like to be with. And the greatest thing we can do is to let people know that they are loved and capable of loving.”

Even people who seem like curmudgeons, people who are negative or mean – deep down even they want to be the kind of people others want to be around. Somewhere they lost hope that they will ever get what they feel they need and have given up on others ever accepting and liking them. They need us to be kind to them more than we know. Give them the acceptance, love and the kindness that has been missing in their life and in so doing you can help give them hope and happiness. You may not know it and may not see the results of it, but your acceptance and kindness may be the spark that ignites a ray of hope in them. In order to reach people we must accept and love everyone where they are at today, even if we do not like or understand everything about them.
